She is too fond of books

January 6, 2011

Via a friend who writes the beautiful nature blog Pine Meadow Pond, I found the  site she is too fond of books (and it has addled her brain), the title of which should be enough to get you there.

Specifically, though, I was pointed to the Spotlight on Bookstores series, which is wonderful: Dawn gathers guest essays by writers on the bookstores they love. She’s organized the essays by region, which turns the whole thing into a perfect database for book-junkies: support for local bookstores, great writing, and directions to get to the places described.

For a taste, here’s the one that got me there: Rebecca Rasmussen’s lovely essay on Troubador Books in Hadley, Massachusetts.

Here’s mine, on the magical Brattleboro Books.

thank you for your kind words, Jessamyn, and for your wonderful essay about Brattleboro Books! Yes, the Spotlight on Bookstores series continues to grow … we even have some international entries.

So guess what?!? …. Did you guess?!? Beth and I are going to be at a writing workshop later this month! You are “the connector” (in the parlance of Malcolm Gladwell) that lets us close a neat little loop.

Not only an elegant depiction of place, but a beautiful meditation on books and reading. Thanks for sharing this.
